The Brion-Vega cemetery was one of the last projects by Carlo Scarpa. It is an addition to the existing cemetery of San Vito d'Altivole near Treviso, in Italy. It was commissioned by Mrs. Brion to honor the memory of her deceased husband. Scarpa himself is buried here.
All of the complex was designed and built with the notion of time in mind. Porous concrete, stainfull steel, dense vegetation and shallow ponds were his tools used to turn this architecture into time-sensitive, willing to create architecture that would transmute itself and evolve into a richer state. In his own words, “I consider this work, if you permit me, to be rather good, and which will get better over time.”
